I am a Surgical Technology program director at a local community college. We keep the Tabers in our classroom and use it on a constant basis. During lecture I will stop and ask them to look up terms and definitions so that they will become more familiar with them. We rely a lot on the Taber’s because of the accuracy and ease of use. I have seen it change over the years from when I was in school in the 80’s to now. It is the best medical dictionary in my opinion.

My degree program in massage therapy required classes in anatomy & physiology, and palpatory kinesiology. Learning medical terminology was especially difficult for this 63 year old who had not read anything more difficult than a children's bedtime story in 45 years. Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is an invaluable aid. In fact, Taber's online version serves as a surrogate teacher--plug in a word root, suffix or prefix, up pops a succinct definition; typing in the complete word produces a list of every disease influenced by the defined condition or symptom, from most applicable to least. With Taber's help, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA for a full year. It has earned a respected position in my reference library.

During an intense OR rotation I was sure to be prepared with Taber's handy. Patient turn over was speedy so in between cases I'd read up on the next patient's pathophysiology. My instructors were so confident in me that by the last day I was assigned on the open heart case! All thanks to my little green book.
